The PROFESSIONAL PRESTIGE series units from RHEEM have a 50 gallon storage capacity and smart controls. They are designed for easy installation with no major changes required to the water connections from a standard 50 gallon electric storage water heater. They have durable stainless steel backup electric heating elements and a user friendly LED control panel. The units have three modes of operation including a high demand mode which uses both the heat pump and the electric elements to ensure plenty of hot water. They don't offer a unit bigger than the 50 gallon and use basic tank technology (glass-lined) but the warranty is good.
The INVENTOR brand offers two sizes of water heaters and features advanced inverter drive compressors. Their website is not much help but they are backed by a good warranty.

These water heaters are made and sold in South Africa. They offer integrated units in four different sizes with standard technology but the warranty is not as good as other brands. They offer both "direct" and "indirect" split units where the direct units can be connected to an existing water heater. The concern with this system is that the domestic hot water could become contaminated. They also offer a "split cycle" model that provides air conditioning like a typical ductless ac unit. airco.co.za
