Sometimes it's the simple things

Short version-

Unit was intermittent. The fan came on in the house but nothing at the outside unit. I checked for voltage at the relay and got 120 volts. That was my big error. I should have seen 240 but thought it must be getting voltage. NO WRONG.

After troubleshooting the start and run capacitors, I was stumped. I could see voltage to the compressor and just figured it was $hot $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Then, I watched a few you tube videos and realized I should be seeing 220 volts at the relay.

There is an on/off switch next to the unit mounted on the house-

Only one leg was working and the switch was broken.

Went to Lowes and put in a 60 AMP breaker as they did not have a switch and now all is well.

It was stinking hot last night. Cool now. Good website.

Other reason for REDUCED power on AC
by: Nick

Tried everything as far as parts go and found I had one side with 120v and the other was zero at the ac. The confusing thing was I had 120v on both sides of the breaker in the house.
Ended up finding the wire with no power at the ac burned off just behind the box outside. The only way that could of happened was when the deck was put in the contractor moved the box and exposed a wire. Im just glad it didn't burn my house down, just a little siding damage.
Anyway, reran the wire and ac is working fine.
