We have ranked them in three categories. In the basic category are units with lower efficiencies and usually lower prices. The premium category is the highest efficiency units with state of the art compressor technology. The multizone category is for units with more than one indoor unit connected to a single outdoor unit.

Our simple system of stars allows you to see how the different brands stack up. We have given each brand a rating of from 1 to 5 stars. A 5* rating means that, if we were shopping for our own home, that is the brand we would choose (if it was available). When more than one brand is available with a 5* rating, we would choose the least expensive brand. An NA, in the place of stars, means the brand does not have a unit in that category or we could not find enough information to fairly rate them.

For your convenience, we have included the manufacturers' web addresses as well as our comments concerning the advantages/disadvantages of their products.
